Well, the fact that Charr worship fire, that they destroyed the landscape by fire, that the apocalypse is referred to as "the Searing" all suggest that the word Charr is likely derived from the verb char, not by some obscure reference to the Transformers. It's just more likely.

I'm not saying that 'Hey look, this IS what it is.' I'm saying that its an interesting possibility, and judging from the dev's tendancies towards writing in neat references to other popular works, its really not all that far fetched.
Check out the wikipedia entry for Charr, and it will redirect you to the correct spelling Chaar, as it is a common mispelling.

re: Summoner references, there's also a certain Rosalind reference. You find it. =)
Oh hell yea they're intentional. They are geeks just like us. They are us, only employed in the gaming industry. Bastards. Hope deadlines and bug hunting ruins the fun for them. So yea, if you think "STAAAWP POKKKING MEEEE!" references are to Orcs in Warcraft; you're probably right. They played em all too.

*I want to cast..Magic Missile*
*Why are you casting magic missile? There's no body to attack!*
PAUSE
*err...I attack the darkness*
The best part is later.
*Hello, I'm Galstaff, sorceror of light!*
*Then why are you casting magic missile?*
The first time I saw that summoner video...my friend and I was laughing nonstop for 5min. Its afterwards we realize how geeky we were...finding humour in the vid.

Also Tyria... It's the name of a few things...
Star Wars pilot in the expanded universe...
The Genus of many butterflies...
OR - The woman that was a lesbian lover to Aileen Wourmos, (sp?) who killed several of her prostitution clients in Florida...
Most Likely a Real life reference to one of the many communities in the Grecian city of Ionnia...

Time to be a troll.
Here are a few references following everyone elses logic and reasoning.
There is a skill called Meteor... and if you google search Meteor then you come up with stuff... in real life!!!
You can play as a ranger, a character that uses bows. Robin Hood used a bow, so that means that rangers were based off of Robin Hood.
Stefan the fighter henchman was named after this one guy on page 137 of my super awesome book that I read every night before I go to bed.
What is my point? Lots of you are trying to find vague references that are obviously coincidence. It is like saying that they put the word "the" in there tons of times because it was in that one funny episode of the simpsons.
I know that some of these references could be true, but most of them are just random coincidences and facts that only about 5 people in the world know.
Time to stop being a troll.

Referencing the 13th warrior movie.

That's a great movie, but that form of defense for a party or band of warriors has been around long before the 13th Warrior. It is a last resort if they are surrounded and it leaves no blind/weak spots when defending, a last ditch attempt before the battle is lost.

I think it's a reference to LotR: FotR, the part where the Warghs attack near Moria.

Actually the Male Ranger's dance is a bit old school for anyone that remembers Rerun on the show What's Happening.

If you stand outside of ashford abby in presearing and look in through the fence by the statue, you can see a ghost who ends up being a boss in the UW.

1) On the Nolani Academy Mission, theres is a Flaming Statue outside the Front gate which looks curiously like a Titan, seen later in the game. Also, the flaming effigies seen throught Ascalon Post Searing look like Mursaat, and the crystals that landed during the searing look kinda like Mursaat material, but maybe im just reading too much into it :P
2) In Magesty's Rest around the area where you kill the level 30 Rotscale on the alter, there's a little hut which if i remember correctly was used in the cinematic that showed the Undead Lich and the Sceptre of Orr being taken by the White Mantle.
What happens with the Tapesty Shred and Cape (where is the cape?) and where's this woman in the UW o_O

Yes, the tactic has been around forever, but Dorian's line is almost an exact quote from the 13th Warrior.
Herger the Joyous: When they come, we form a circle in the center of the room, backs to one another.
That fight is possibly one of my favorite events in the entire GW storyline.

Havoc, that is not an easter egg, however, it is true.
That, and some other events hint at the lich helping the Charr cause the searing.
If you look at the "mursaat" effigies, it actually has only 1 set of wings, and 2 horns.
Just like the lich.
Also, the lich had the power to destroy most of Orr.
Plus, he doesn't send titans out to destroy the Charr.
And, the most convincing evidence, already in Nolani bonus, the ghosts when you complete it says that he and his brothers gave his live fighting at the wall, and that "their names might as well be in the Flameseeker Prophecies".
The ghost and his brothers died in the searing/after the Charr came thru the wall bc of the searing, thus the searing is a part of the Flameseeker Prophecies.
And the Lich is the Flameseeker, so it's obvious HE caused the searing.
